Zip

Sponsor Me!

Zip’s my name and that’s what I do for part of the day! The rest of the day I sleep and cuddle with my foster mom and my foster mom's dogs. I am a sweetheart of a dog. I love people, I love going out in public and meeting everyone. I love to play and I will fetch anything that moves! I love my kong. I am deaf but I don’t show it much. I follow my foster mom around and watch the other dogs. I am a good watchdog – I always check the window to see who is near my front yard. I am fully house trained – dog door trained, and crate trained. I sit, stay, down and wait. My biggest problem is I have a bad foot. I was dragged as a puppy from a car and it didn’t heal right. I still get around like crazy, it doesn’t slow me down.

Update on Zip’s foot. We got another specialist’s opinion on Zip’s foot and this vet didn’t feel surgery would work. The orthopedic surgeon was willing to try but also stated that surgery may not work. He does have some pain in the leg/foot and probably always will since he is an active cattle dog and strains the foot when he runs. He is currently getting acupuncture and is on chondroitan sulfate and Chinese herbs to keep any swelling down. His foster mom is also doing some energy work on his leg to help it to heal. The chondroitan sulfate is working very well and he is bouncing around even more. He will always have a limp and most likely will need to be on chondroitan or similar kind of supplements/meds for the rest of his life. He is a happy boy and will make someone a wonderful companion!

Intake date 11/21/06. He was thrown from a moving car and surrendered to an Animal Emergency Clinic, who contacted us.

Good with older Kids, good with other dogs and cats unknown!

Smith

Hello world, my name is Smith (also called Smithy). I am an ACD mix, possibly with American Staffordshire terrier? I am very sweet, little guy and so far get along well with all other dogs I have lived with (except my brother). I spend my days with 3 foster friends, one ACD, a Dutch shepherd and a border collie. They are OK and we play together but I really LOVE human attention. My foster person has been making sure I understand not to expect more attention than the others and I have been making good progress. We are not allowed to eat together. I like to walk right at my person’s side while the others run ahead although sometimes I’ll run ahead with them if it looks like they see something interesting. I sit when instructed and have learned not to go through doors or gates without being asked first. I don’t jump on doors anymore but sometimes almost forget I am not allowed to jump up on people. Anybody can ask me to sit and I will do it. I fetch too! I was “born to ride”. I love to ride in vehicles and on the John Deere. I have high energy and need appropriate exercise. I am very smart, sweet and willing to learn anything to please people. I hope you have room in your life for a friend like me! Smithy

Intake date 8/18/07 from finder in Queen Creek.

Jones

***ADOPTED!!***

Howdy folks, my name is Jones. I am the good looking half of the Dynamic Duo, "Alias Smith and Jones". I have been told that I look like I'm mixed with American Bulldog. You will be mesmerized by my eyes. They’re quite striking if I say so myself.

I’m a super ball dog – totally focused and with great instincts to judge where I need to be to catch the ball. I’ll even bring the ball back to you, if my brother doesn't block me first. I also love the water, from lounging in my foster mom’s play pool to diving in after toys. My bro Smith likes to play with the toys, too – but he just waits for me to get out of the pool and tries to take them from me. No way! I hear about Dock Dog competition, where we compete to see what dog can jump the farthest into a pool. Now that sounds like fun!

My foster mom thinks my bro knows I'm hearing challenged. If I'm snoozing when it's time to go outside, my bro will nudge me to let me know. My foster mom will open Smith's crate first and then mine. Smith will run down the hallway and if I'm not behind him, he will run back to my crate and nudge me with his nose.

My foster mom says we act like fools when we get out of our crates. For some reason she doesn’t like it when I jump on her. Even though I love the water, I don't like the water bottle. I guess she means business! I’ve also started basic obedience class and am learning sign language versions of all the standard commands. So far I know sit, come, no and yes. And I started leash walking training. I'm doing pretty well.

All in all, I'm a typical prey driven cattle dog, so your cats, birds, and small pets just look like Scooby Snacks to me. I am well socialized with humans and dogs and love companionship. The rescue folks feel I should be placed with a girlfriend. Since I'm hearing challenged, I will follow my girlfriend’s lead. I weight about 45 pounds (all muscle!) and am very strong, so it would best to be adopted into a home with a dog about my same size. Also, because I’m still a pup and don’t always know my own strength, I should live only with older kids. I love everyone and love to play, so it would be easy to knock down a little tyke without meaning to.

What else…I love people and will bond fast with my new family. I ride very nicely in a car. I'm crate trained too! I need plenty of exercise and need to continue with training classes. Don't be afraid of my impairment. Give me a chance. Check out deafdogs.org for more information on living with and loving a hearing impaired dog, then call New Hope and set up a time to meet me!

Intake date 8/18/07 from finder in Queen Creek.

Good with older Kids, good with other dogs and potentially cats!

Dachs (Badger)

My name is Dachs. I am four months old. Let me tell you a little bit about my family. My Mom was picked up by Yuma Animal Control back in November of 2007. They found out that Mom was preganant and they didn't want us puppies born in the shelter because they had no room for all of us so they contacted New Hope Cattle Dogs Rescue.

The Foster Coordinator asked the Volunteers for some help. Our Foster Mom lived in California and said she would take us. So, she met with a Volunteer and took us home with her. My 4 brothers, 1 sister and myself were born on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007. Our foster mom figured that our Mom had had other puppies and was tired of taking care of them so she wasn't the greatest Mom but we had a great foster mom who made sure we were taken care of all the time.

My foster mom knew that my eyes might have some problems from the beginning because I didn't open them as soon as my brothers and sister, but NHCD knew that I deserved a fighting chance and that is what they have given me. I stayed in California for about 3 months before coming to be fostered in Arizona. I have a wonderful foster home now with lots of dogs to play with and wonderful foster parents who love me and take care of me. My foster mom noticed some gunk coming out of my eye and notified New Hope and they decided I better see a specialist. My Mom was malnourished before she was in the care of NHCD and so the Vet seems to think due to the lack of her nourishment I was born with a detached retina in my left eye and damage to my right eye. I am totally blind in my left and and eventually will go blind in my right eye. I am in desperate need of surgery to remove my left eye so I won't be in pain any longer and I will be on medication and drops for my other eye until I go blind in that eye as well. It could be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year or 5 years from now. But I am able to see out of it so they would like to see me keep that eye as long as possible but I will have to be on meds for it to manage the drainage and the pain.

New Hope Cattle Dogs Rescue needs your help with funding for me. The surgery is going to cost between $1300 to $1600. They are a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, so all funds come from wonderful people like you reading my story and are tax deductible. I thank them so much with lots of love to everyone I meet for just giving me a chance at having the best life possible. Won't you thank them too by helping with my huge vet bill? Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and helping NHCD help me! With lots of love, Dachs

Tanya Tucker

Hi there, I am Tanya, and I am one of the prettiest, neatest cattle dogs you will ever see. I am 1-2 years old and just came into the rescue. I am a real sweetheart and while I am still learning my basic commands and leash work, I am so gentle that my foster family's 14 month old daughter can lead me around. I like all the people I meet and would rather spend time with you than other dogs. I need more work around dogs. I am not mean but I do like to boss the boys around. I am still recovering from my spay surgery so I won't be ready for adoption till the end of March. See you soon!

Hello, my name is Velma Sue. I’m one of the sweetest cattle dog’s you will ever meet. I love to be with my humans. I’m a owner surrender due to unforeseen circumstances in my owner’s life. I know he would have kept me if he could. I’m a very submissive female and I do love to play with my tug toy and chase the ball. My foster sister and I love to romp and play. I’m housebroken and am learning that the crate where I sleep at isn’t so bad after all. I also love the long walks I get to go on every night. Please come and meet me I know I will steal your heart. I can’t wait to meet you, but you better hurry since I’m so sweet someone is going to take me home soon.

Rex

***ADOPTION PENDING!!***

Hi, my name is P.B. Rex (Pretty Boy Rex). I am brand new to the New Hope Cattle Dog Rescue but my foster mom says that I am doing great. I am an ACD Mix between 7-8 months old. I was turned in to the Humane Society for fence jumping a 5 ft fence but my foster mom has already figured out why. When I love you I want to be with you and not left behind. I can be trained to be patient so don't be afraid to meet me.

I have only been in rescue 1 day but have already been exposed to horses and seem to be the type that would be easily trained to work cows for sure. I don't have any bad behaviors so far and walk great on the leash, know come, sit, down and basically am a really nice boy. I have a full tail and am I glad, that way if you want to work me I can keep my balance. I also did great riding in a big truck. I am good with other dogs but do tend to play like a puppy so I should not be with an old dog that doesn't want to play. We will find out about cats soon, so stay tuned in as my foster mom finds out more about me, wags and hugs Rex.

Intake date 3/08 from Southern Arizona Humane Society.

Good with older Kids, other dogs and possibly cats!

Dayzee Duke

Hi there, my name is Dayzee Duke. I am one special little girl. My foster mom sometime cries when she thinks of all the abuse I must have been through in my young life. I have obviously been kicked around by some cowboy but still need to be loved so bad that my behavior is sometime overwhelming when I need to show you how much I love you no matter how much abuse I have taken.

I have not only been kicked around but I am carrying 18 buckshot pellets from when someone used me as target practice. I have a lot of built in fear and sometimes take it out on other dogs that I am with. I seem to be OK with a secure dominate male but can't be with another female dog as it brings out the fear in me to the point where I will attack. I need to be in a home where it is quite and restful. I love to lay by my foster mom whenever I can. I sleep at her feet and love it.

I am also told that I am going to have to undergo treatments for heart worm which will start this Monday March 10. The treatments are very painful and it will take a month for them all to be done. This is very expensive but the people at New Hope feel that I am worth it.

I came into rescue from the Yuma Humane Society well on my way to having my 2nd litter of puppies. I had them on Thanksgiving day in 2007 and they are almost all in new loving homes right now. I just hope someone can open their heart and give me that forever home that I so much deserve after all I have been through.

I am tiny in size but do weigh around 30 lbs. Believe me it's all muscle and I can jump from a stand still into the bed of a very big truck. Once I know you are mine I won't leave your side and find it difficult to get out of my truck because I love it so much.

If you think you would like to meet me contact the adoption coordinator to set up an appointment and by the way my foster mom tells me I am a beautiful girl in looks and spirit. Hugs and Wags, Dayzee.

Justin

Hi there, my name is Justin. I was within seconds of being put to sleep when one of the Animal Control officers who just loved me begged them not to kill me. Officer J J then contacted the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and New Hope Cattle Dogs to see if either of them could take me in. Well it turns out my foster mom is a Volunteer for both and she called Officer J J and they met on Sunday Morning to get me into rescue.

I was neutered yesterday by the Humane Society and given medication for my doggie cold and I will be ready to go in about 10 days. My foster mom just loves me and I am a very nice and playful boy. To top it all off I am about as handsome as a Cattle Dog Can get. Get your application in soon as I won't last long. I am about 3 years old and weigh around 35 lbs, so I am a very nice size and a gentleman to boot. Thanks for stopping by and here's a kiss for you, Justin.
